Glicenstein, Enrico (Henryk) (Polish/Jewish/American, 1870-1942), Mrs. Glicenstein and Her Brother Reading to Her, 1920, oil on wood panel, mounted to a backing board, signed lower right, estate label on the back, 18.5 x 23.5 inches, unframed. An impressionistic image of the artist’s wife and brother-in-law. Provenance: The Estate of Hugo Dreyfuss (the son-in-law of the artist, who was married to Beatrice Glicenstein). Estimate $400 – 500. Od ponad roku Concept Art Gallery z Pittsburga wyprzedaje spuściznę po Henryku Glicensteinie. Moim zdaniem, najlepsza była pierwsza seria prac przedstawiająca rzeźby tego artysty z przełomu XIX/XX wieku. Jednak, w każdej serii licytowanych prac znajduje się coś wyjątkowego. Tym razem nie jest to rzeźba lecz praca w oleju przedstawiająca prozaiczną scenę z żoną artysty przysłuchującą się jej bratu czytającego książkę. Trudno odczytać, czy kobieta słucha z zamknietymi oczami czy też jest pochłonięta swoimi myślami. Obraz jest namalowany w 1920 roku na płycie drewnianej, która pękła co dla niektórych może stanowić problem, choć innym to nie przeszkodzi.
