Condition:
The painting is in good condition, consistent with age. It is slightly discolored and with tiny losses of color in the part of the vegetation. The frame shows usual signs of age and wear.

Abraham Neumann (1873-1942)
The Polish painter Abraham Neumann who was born in 1973 in the former Russian Sierpc studied around the turn of the century at the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow. Later he went to a study stay to the Académie Julian in Paris. Neumann travelled a lot in his life: He visited the Netherlands, Belgium, England and Germany, stayed in Vienna for some time and travelled to the US and around Palestine in the 1920s. In Jerusalem, he taught at the Academy of Art and Design in Bezalel. The artist primarily painted landscapes but portraits and genre scenes, interiors and still lifes belong to his oeuvre as well. During the era of national socialism Neumann was detained in the Krakow Ghetto where he created (self) portraits. In 1942, the artist was shot dead during the evacuating of the ghetto by German National Socialist.

Panorama painting of a coastal landscape with young green firs in the foreground and view over the wide sea towards the horizon. The artist who was at that time a famous painter stands in the tradition of the impressionists.

Condition:
The painting is in good condition, consistent with age. It bears overall tiny craquelure. There are rubbed spots due to the frame in some places and under UV light several small retouched spots, mainly to the edges, can be seen. The frame shows signs of age and wear and several small losses of color.

Stanislaw Zukowski (1873-1944)
In 1892 Stanislaw Zukowski attended the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture as a pupil of Makowski and Arkhipov. In addition, he was taught by the great Russian painter Isaak Ilyich Levitan. Already as a student he was honored with several awards, his work ‘Moonlit Night’ was purchased by the Tretyakov Gallery. From 1895 Zukowski regularly participated in exhibitions in Moscow. He was a member of the group ‘Mir Iskusstva’ and the Union of Russian Artists. Zukowski was a celebrated landscape painter in Russia in the tradition of Impressionism; the Russian patron Pavel Tretyakov bought several of his works. Later the artist also received awards abroad, e.g. at the International Art Exhibition in Munich. In 1912 he visited Europe, traveling through Switzerland, Germany, France and Italy. After the October Revolution Zukowski initially stayed in Moscow, then worked in Poland, where he taught young artists. In the 1920s, Zukowski’s works were exhibited in the US and Canada, as well as Paris and Copenhagen. Recurring themes in the artist’s oeuvre are landscapes, as well as interiors and window views. His paintings are exhibited in the Tretyakov Gallery, the Russian Museum, the Museum of Russian Art in Kiev, the National Art Museum of Belarus in Minsk, the National Museum in Warsaw, and the National Gallery in Krakow.

The portrait of an elegant lady in fancy dress and with perl necklace shows Frida Moltzer, née Fischer, who became member of the Moltzer family throught her marriage. The family owned the Bols distillery since the mid-18th century for around hundred years. The affairs of the company were temporarily conducted by Frida’s husband Jan Moltzer while they had been living in Buenos Aires.

Condition:
The drawing is overall in good condition; discolored consistent with age and with scattered foxing marks. The edges show partially rubbed spots and tiny damages. There are scattered rubbed spots center right and lower right and left. The framing cardboard bears foxing marks on the reverse and the frame shows signs of age and wear.

Teodor Axentowicz (1859-1938)
Teodor Axentowicz was born in 1859 in Kronstadt (Brasov), Transylvania. He studied at the beginning of the 1880s at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich. After that he went to Paris where he became a pupil of Emile Auguste Carolus-Duran. In this time, he studied the Old Masters among others Botticelli, Tizian and Velázquez. Right before the turn of the century the artist settled down in Krakow working as a professor at the art college. The oeuvre of the artist presents portraits and figure paintings as well as genre scenes and historic paintings. Axentowicz is well known for his salon portraits and his sceneries of the rural life in East Galicia.

Atmospheric winter scenery with path in the center guiding the view of the spectator into the deep forest landscape; individual parts of the snow blanket are sunlit and provide vividness.

Condition:
The painting is overall in good condition. It is slightly discolored, consistent with age. The cardboard shows rippling and there are tiny damages to edges and corners. Scratches can be seen center and lower right and a retouched spot is at the upper edge left. The frame shows signs of age and wear as well as small tears and loss of material to the lower left corner.

Condition:
The painting is overall in good, color fresh condition, showing minor paint losses to the margins. The inspection under UV light reveals small touch-ups to the trees in the background. The frame has slightly worn.

Iwan Trusz (1869-1941)
Iwan Trusz was born in the Halychyna Region of the Ukraine. From 1891 to 1897 he studied at the Art Academy in Krakow, which was followed by a stay in Vienna in 1894 and a studio visit at Anton Azbe’s house in Munich in 1987. During his travels, the painter also visited the Crimea (1901-1904), Italy (1902/08), as well as Egypt and Palestine (1912). In 1898 he settled in Lviv, where he established himself as a painter, art critic and publisher of the first Ukrainian art magazine. His extensive oeuvre includes numerous series of paintings of flowers, fields, Jewish cemeteries and landscapes, which he first presented in Lviv in 1899. During his lifetime, Iwan Trusz has also exhibited in Poland, London, Vienna and Sofia. Today, examples of his artistic output are preserved at the Lviv Art Museum.
