Condition:

The bronze is in very good condition. Minor signs of age and wear. The marble base partially with small bumps along the edges. The size measures 44 x 11 x 11 cm.

The sculptor studied as a student of Jan Alojzy Matejko and Tadeusz Gadomski at the Art Academy Krakow and at the Academy in Vienna. After that Lewandowski worked in Krakow for two years, later in Lviv and since 1894 in Vienna. In 1924 he was appointed chief medalist of the Polish mint in Warsaw. From 1925 onwards, he worked in Vienna again. Some of Lewandowski’s main works include the Adam Mickiewicz monument in Rzeszow, the monument of Princess Czartoryska in St Mary’s Basilica in Krakow as well as a medal of the rise of Poland and many other portrait medallions and plaques.
