Z tych dwóch olejów Tadeusza Styki, znakomitego portrecisty, wybrałbym studium drapieżnej ręki. Drugie studium, portret Adonisa prowadzącego konia za uzdę to być może było przygotowanie do większej pracy tego artysty. Wg opisu, ta praca pojawiła się na okładce amerykańskiego czasopisama o sztuce Apollo the Magazine of the Arts for Connoisseurs and Collectors” December 1955, pośmiertnie poświęconemu artyście; szukałem tego numeru i okładki lecz nie odnalazłem.

Troche zlekceważony tą ‘atrybucją’ portret głowy lwa autorstwa Tadeusza Styki. Sądzę, że jest to praca tego malarza, który tworzył bardzo rozbudowane kompozycje związane z tymi zwierzętami.

Z tych trzech prac Tadeusza Styki warty grzechu jest, moim zdaniem, jedynie jego jesienny, cieply, pełen słońca pejzaż. Pejzaże tego malarza to rzadkość. Większość jego prac to portrety jak tutaj: portret młodej kobiety z ze sztucznym uśmiechem graniczącym z grymasem oraz portret nieznanego młodego mężczyzny. Wszystkie prace dobre ale wybrałbym zdecydowanie pejzaż.

Ten obraz Tadeusza Styki dość dobrze wpisuje się do jego znanego lecz odpryskowego fragmentu twórczości jakim były zwierzęta, głównie lwy. Wykonane przez niego portrety, zwłaszcza młodych i pięknych kobiet, są chyba bardziej poszukiwane.

Tadeusz Styka to mistrz kobiecego portretu. Żałować trzeba, że obecni właściciele pozbywaja się tak dobrego oleju za marne pieniądze. Praca ta może być jedną z najlepszych jakie artysta namalował. Co za wzrok kobiety, kokieteria, a jaka tonacja palety malarskiej, no i ta łodyżka roży delikatnie gryziona. Praca warta grzechu i walki aukcyjnej. PS. Bardzo ciekawy tytuł.

Ciekawy portret amerykańskiej aktorki Jayne Manners. Tadeusz Styka wykonał wiele rysunków tej aktorki (poniżej) . Aktorka była piękna (fotografia) i chętnie pozowała malarzowu nie krępując się zbytnio dobiorem ciuchów, co widać na wielu rysunkach. Trudno nie dziwić się, że Tadeusz Styka tak chętnie ją malował au naturale.

The present painting depicts American Broadway actress Jayne Manners, n�e Jane Oppermann in Monticello, Georgia in 1908. In 1925, aged seventeen, the singer-actress relocated to New York, where she performed at the Shubert Theatre. Selected here are images of her billed (as “The Unpredictable” Jayne Manners) alongside the iconic Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis comedy duo, as well as posing beside Ray Bolger (best known for his role as Scarecrow in The Wizard of Oz) during the 1942 production of “By Jupiter.” It was during her early Broadway career that Manners likely met Styka, who made the numerous nude �tudes and a painting of the young Jayne included here. The two remained in contact throughout Manners’ lifetime, as evidenced by the present portrait, produced at least a decade following their acquaintance, as well as later sketches of her brother, sister, and parents. Shown here en face, her graceful hands holding the sleeve of a fur coat draped over one shoulder, Manners epitomises not only the classic “American beauty” type Styka preferred to paint, but the vitality of colors and brushstrokes for which he was so sought after in his lifetime and remembered for today.

Dość niezwykły portret kobiety w wykonaniu Tadeusza Styki. Autorstwo twarzy kobiety nie budzi wątpliwości natomiast z autorstwem rąk mam problemy. Obraz jest mocno uszkoszodzony z naprawioną długą krechą od buzi aż do dekoltu. Palce rąk są nienaturalnie długie i skrzywione. Portret Femme Fatalle? Wycena jest bardzo optymistycznie ustawiona. Rama bardzo dobrze dobrana.

Lot 355. Tadé (Tadeusz) Styka (Polish/French, 1889-1954). Portrait of a Lady. Signed “TADE.STYKA_” l.r., with a label from Cirker’s, New York, with inventory number “9457,” affixed to the stretcher, identified and partially titled “…Miss J. Mam…” on an unattributed label affixed to the stretcher. Oil on canvas mounted to Masonite, 44 x 30 in. (111.8 x 76.2 cm), framed. Condition: Two diagonal lines of repair/retouch measuring approximately 12 inches each across face and upper chest, prominent craquelure primarily around figure, scattered accretions. Retouch as previously noted plus additional glazes and strokes in both figure and back ground (see UV images). Craquelure is stable, but there are areas of alligatoring. Frame is period and measures 50 1/2 x 36 1/4 x 1 in. Estimate $2,000 – 3,000. Skinner. 05/31/20. Sold $12,500 (with buyer’s premium).
