An expert opinion from the SUSEIA Foundation is included with the purchase. The work is included in the artist’s catalogue raisonné with the reference 11/4/1961.
According to documentation in the Józef Czapski archive at the National Museum in Kraków, Poland, the painting was executed during November and December 1961. A preparatory sketch for the work is pasted into the artist’s diary, where he also documented the work on the painting through a smaller compositional sketch. The motif depicts two men in a bar or at a café and appears in the artist’s notes under the titles Bar, Bar 328, and Café, respectively. From the same period, there are additional sketches with similar motifs, possibly executed during Czapski’s stay in Italy in 1961 or in France, in Paris or Maisons-Laffitte. The painting is also mentioned in the artist’s annual summary for 1961. PROVENANCE; Gift directly from the artist to the current owner’s grandmother.

Praca została odnotowana w katalogu raisonné pod numerem 11/4/1961, a zapisy w dzienniku artysty pozwalają datować jej powstanie na listopad i grudzień 1961 roku. Dodatkowym atutem jest pochodzenie bezpośrednio od Czapskiego, który podarował obraz babce obecnego właściciela, oraz opinia ekspercka.
