Portrait of an officer. Oil on canvas laid on paperboard, signed in the lower right corner, unframed.
“Roman Kramsztyk studied at the Fine Arts Academy in Cracow under J.Mehoffer, and later in Berlin and Paris, where he remained since 1910 (with break in 1914-1922). Every year he went to Poland, where he participated in exhibitions. He was also a co-founder of the Rytm society. In his earlier years Kramsztyk painted still lifes and southern France landscapes. After 1930 he changed to portraits and nudes, inspired by old masters. From the years of WWII come his shocking drawings made in the Warsaw ghetto”. http://www.askart.com

Ciekawy polonik (a precyzyjniej varsavianik) pędzla niemieckiego malarza. Widok na Sobór św. Aleksandra Newskiego jaki krótko dominował nad całą Warszawą i został pobudowany przez Rosjan na ówczesnym Placu Saskim, współcześnie Placu Piłsudskiego. Sobór był symbolem rusyfikacji i został rozebrany w latach 20-tych XX wieku. Takich chwastów Rosjanie zasadzili więcej w Warszawie ale udało się je wyrwać w okresie międzywojennym.
