Born on July 12, 1907, in Tomaszow, Poland, Zdzislaw Ruszkowski displayed an early affinity for art, no doubt influenced by his father – a painter, who took delight in bringing his son with him on painting expeditions. His formative years were marked by a deep curiosity and passion for painting, leading him to pursue formal education in the field of fine arts. Ruszkowski’s academic journey took him to the Cracow Art Academy, where he honed his skills under the guidance of renowned Polish artists. In 1935, he travelled to Paris, where his work would take on a different character and became more explicitly influenced by masters including Titian, Van Gogh, Cezanne and Rembrandt – stylistically disparate, though linked by their dexterous handling of light and colour. It was during this period that Ruszkowski began to develop his unique artistic approach, characterized by a fusion of classical techniques with modern sensibilities. In 1939, interrupted by the outbreak of war, Ruszkowski joined the Polish army in France. Travelling across Europe by foot, Ruszkowski ultimately found himself in Scotland, where he met and married his wife, Jennifer McCormack. Following the war, Ruszkowski and his wife divided their time between London, Cornwall and his studio in Lyme Regis. Whilst he is, perhaps, not a well-known name today, during his lifetime Ruszkowski was able to support his family through his work as an artist, exhibiting alongside the London Group and being represented by galleries including the Leicester Galleries, Roland, Browse & Delbanco and Jablonsky Gallery. Ruszkowski’s body of work is a testament to his mastery of various artistic genres. He was a versatile artist, equally adept at portraiture, landscape and still life painting. His signature style combined meticulous attention to detail with a profound emotional depth. Ruszkowski’s use of colour and light was particularly noteworthy, as he skilfully captured the nuances of the human form, the grandeur of nature and the subtleties of everyday objects.

Olga Slomszynska dite Olga SLOM est une artiste peintre, illustratrice et dessinatrice née en 1881 à Vevey en Suisse. Son père, André Słomczyński dit André Slom (Bordeaux 1844 – 1909 Paris), peintre et illustrateur français, lui-même fils de Stanislas. Słomczyński, officier polonais réfugié, est un peintre, graveur, illustrateur et ancien communard français. Ami de Gustave Courbet, il en exécute le portrait mortuaire le 31 décembre 1877. Pendant la Commune, il se réfugie en Suisse. C’est en Suisse que naît sa fille Olga en 1881, date à laquelle il retourne à Paris et dessine pour plusieurs revues françaises notamment L’illustration, Le Monde illustré. Olga Slom, part à Paris au tout début du XXème siècle, et est domiciliée au début dans la maison familiale, au 26 avenue des Gobelins. Elle est l’élève de son père, André Slom et de Luc-Olivier Merson. Elle expose à partir de 1909 au Salon des Artistes Français dont elle devient sociétaire. Elle participe à plusieurs projets d’illustrations et de recueils littéraires dont Nouvelles et Contes de Bêtes du Docteur Boucher en 1912 et travaille en tant qu’illustratrice avec Lucien Descaves. La peintre est autant reconnue pour ses scènes de parc, ses bords de mer et ses paysages lacustres que pour ses scènes d’intérieur et ses portraits capturant l’intimité de ses modèles. Przyznam, że byłem pod wrażeniem bardzo barwnych, o znakomitym świetle pejzaży w oleju z południa Francji Olgi Słomczyńskiej. To już druga seria jej prac na aukcji w Millon, przedstawiająca m.in. portrety, i sceny we wnętrzach, które subiektywnie mniej cenię od tych pejzaży. Niemniej, jest to hurtowe przybliżenie tworczości artystki, wnuczki polskiego oficera i emigrata.

Bardzo ładny pejzaż w wykonaniu Jana Rubczaka i znalazłby nabywcę za 14,500 euro bo licytacja zatrzymała się w tym momencie. Cena rezerwowa była jednak wyższa i dlatego obraz spadł. Prawdopodobnie brakowało tych 500 euro do sprzedaży. Nie warto czasami mieć takie sztywne zasady i odnosi się to do obu stron.

Czasami pojawiają się znakomite oleje Pawła Merwarta, jak przed rokiem w Dorotheum, a czasami zadziwiające słabe jak ta z Millon. Kompozycja jest mocno sztuczna ale rejestruję ją dla porównania z innymi pracami tego artysty.

Pośmiertny odlew rzeźby Bolesława Biegasa. Może właśnie dlatego, że to jest pośmiertny praca nie zastała sprzedana a może dlatego również, że detale są nie są ostre (np. ręce) lub może patyna została dobrana mało atrakcyjna. W zasadzie należałoby mieć dla porównania gips tej rzeźby. Dodam, że ten sam numerowany egzemplarz (3/8) był na aukcji w Bonhams w czerwcu tego roku z wyceną 10,000 – 15,000 euro.
