Tytus Maleszewski. Lucyna Nekanda-Trepka

A Polish painter, draftsman, and pastel artist, Tytus Maleszewski was born in Sieradz in 1827 and died in Warsaw in 1898. He studied at the Warsaw School of Fine Arts between 1844 and 1850, before continuing his training in Paris, beginning in 1856, in Léon Cogniet’s studio. There, he associated notably with the painter Wojciech Gerson and the poet Cyprian Kamil Norwid, whose portrait he painted. He then completed his training at the Academy of Saint Luke in Rome between 1858 and 1860. A sought-after portraitist, Maleszewski made several trips to Paris, where his works were well received, particularly his portraits of Empress Eugénie and the famous opera singer Adelina Patti, exhibited in 1870. He painted numerous prominent figures of his time, including the composer Stanisław Moniuszko, the painter Artur Grottger, and the poet Teofil Lenartowicz. Condition report: In oval gilded wooden frames.

Para pastelowych portretów Tytusa Maleszewskiego z 1864 roku, przedstawiająca przypuszczalnie Artura Nekandę-Trepkę i Lucynę z Łabęckich Nekanda-Trepkę, stanowi interesujący przykład polskiego portretu reprezentacyjnego połowy XIX wieku. Artysta różnicuje charakter obu wizerunków: mężczyznę ukazuje w ciemnym, eleganckim stroju, z bezpośrednim spojrzeniem podkreślającym powagę i pewność siebie, natomiast portret kobiety rozjaśnia błękitem sukni oraz delikatnością modelunku twarzy.

Szczególną uwagę zwracają również owalne, złocone ramy, których bogata ornamentyka podkreśla reprezentacyjny charakter tej pary wizerunków.
