Pół roku temu praca ta była przedmiotem aukcji u MacDougala w UK z dużo wyższą ceną szacunkową (£45,000 – £60,000). Nie sprawdzałem wyników tamtej aukcji ale prawdopodobnie obraz nie został wtedy sprzedany pomimo orzecznictwa autentyczności i tu wspomnianego Vladimira Petrova (pisałem już poprzednio co sądzę o jego ekspertyzach). Tym razem obraz zawędrował do Berlina,czyli jest już wpół drogi do Rosji. Trochę mnie niepokoi ta dosłownie wydrapana ręką (rzekomo?) Siemiradzkiego sygnatura. Węszę zdradę (“Zdrada Mości Panowie! Zdrada!”) choć mogę nie mieć racji. W tym przypadku, gdyby to był falsyfikat to domalowaną później sygnaturę łatwo byłoby stwierdzić, z wydrapaną jest o niebo gorzej. Siemiradzki ‘kładł’ pięknie stylizowane sygnatury a tu nagle zachciało mu się ją drapać. Trzeba pytać wysokiej klasy eksperta – ja jedynie dzielę sie swoimi wątpliwościami. Temat pracy jest dla specyficznego amatora. Do zobaczenia, moim zdaniem, za kolejne pół roku z nową wyceną!

Henryk Ippolitovich Siemiradzki (1843-1902) – Russian-Polish painter and famous member of the St. Petersburg Art Academy. Signed and dated lower right ‘Henryk Siemiradzki 1865‘. The authenticity of the painting has been confirmed by Vladimir Petrov to the former owner. Dimensions: 101 x 80.5 cm. Frame: 107 x 86 cm. Good condition.

Condition:
The painting is in good condition, consistent with age. The canvas is relined. Inspection under UV light reveals larger areas of retouching to the background as well as smaller retouchings to the sitter. The stretcher measures 101 x 80.5 cm and the frame 107 x 86 cm.

Henryk Ippolitovich Siemiradzki (1843-1902)
Henryk Siemiradzki was a prominent member of the St. Petersburg Academy of Arts and regularly won a number of silver and gold medals. In 1871 he left Munich, where he had studied at the academy for a year. From 1872 he settled permanently in Rome and established two studios far beyond 1884. Siemiradzki was focused on mythical, historical and religious themes, but was also inspired by the ancient Greece and Rome. He is especially famous for his monumental, stage-like paintings, but he occasionally also painted small idyllic genre scenes.

Jesli ktoś jest przemęczony pracami polskich ‘koniarzy” takich jak np. Kossakowie, Chełmiński, Rozwadowski, Rosen, etc, i chciałby urozmaicić kolekcję zagranicznym polonikiem to taka okazja własnie się nadarza. Napoleon jako centralna postać oraz polscy szwoleżerowie na pierwszym planie choć bez udzialu pędzla Kossaka. Ta niewielka wymiarami, zgrabna kompozycja może dodać dużo kolorytu polskiej kolekcji. Wg opisu katalogowego, praca ta nie jest sygnowana.

Witam Naturalnie nie ma co dzielic wlosa na czworo, ale ! Nie wiem skad taka dokladna interpretacja obrazu, byc moze wraz z obrazem jest jego szerszy opis, byc moze. Jesli jest to scena bitwy pod Waterloo to skad sie wzieli ulani Legii Nadwislanskiej (zolte wylogi), ktorych naturalnie juz w 1815 nie bylo,choc juz czapka nalezy do szwolezera Gwardii. Jesli zas jest to szwolezer Gwardi to mamy pomylone kolory wylogu nie zolty a czerwony. Mamy zatem dwie pomylki: bledny kolor wylogu i kwatery czapki. To nie koniec, kolory proporczykow odwrocone, ale od biedy mogly takie byc. Kita tez w dziwnym zielonym kolorze. Zatem kim sa ci Polacy? Jesli rzeczywiscie jest to bitwa pod Waterloo (tak na marginesie wcale nie jest pewien tego pruskiego huzara) to artysta pomylil kolor wylogu – zamiast zoltego powien byc czerwony. Jesli zas jest to scena bitewna np toczaca sie w Hiszpaniii to pomylka dotyczy koloru kwatery czapki – zamiast czerwonej granatowa. Jest jescze inna mozliwosc iz jest to 9 pulk francuskich szwolezerow ktory z Polska nie mial prawie nic wspolnego poza stylem munduru i dowodca pulk w 1813 r. ktorym byl Jan Maksymilian Fredro ale i w tym przypadku nie zgadza sie kolor kurtki nie niebieski a zielony. Zapewne dla zdecydowanej wiekszosci Panstwa te bledy nie maja znaczenia ale jak wiadomo diabel tkwi w szczegole.             Pozdrawiam i dlon sciskam. W. B.

Lot 618. ROBERT ALEXANDER HILLINGFORD (1828-1904). GROUCHY OR BLUCHER?. Oil on panel; 30cm x 20cm. The scene depicts the famous moment during the battle when Napoleon first saw the advancing mass of blue-coated troops on the right of his line approaching from some five miles away and was unable to make out from whose army they might be. He took his telescope and peered at the troops as they emerged at the edge of the Blois de Paris. Before long, a captured Prussian cavalry officer was brought in and their identity was no longer in doubt. Napoleon, who is shown before the farm at Rosomme, is wearing his familiar greatcoat over the uniform of an officer of Chasseurs-à-Cheval of the Imperial Guard and mounted on his grey horse. Behind him, two generals, an aide de camp of dragoons and another aide peer at the Prussians, while to his right another general discusses their identity with his aide de camp and an officer of the chasseurs. To the right, an officer and drummer of the Grenadiers of the Guard lead the Imperial escort while in the foreground two Polish lancers of the Guard are passing at the salute while they escort a Prussian hussar to the rear.
