Dość niezwykły portret kobiety w wykonaniu Tadeusza Styki. Autorstwo twarzy kobiety nie budzi wątpliwości natomiast z autorstwem rąk mam problemy. Obraz jest mocno uszkoszodzony z naprawioną długą krechą od buzi aż do dekoltu. Palce rąk są nienaturalnie długie i skrzywione. Portret Femme Fatalle? Wycena jest bardzo optymistycznie ustawiona. Rama bardzo dobrze dobrana.
Lot 355. Tadé (Tadeusz) Styka (Polish/French, 1889-1954). Portrait of a Lady. Signed “TADE.STYKA_” l.r., with a label from Cirker’s, New York, with inventory number “9457,” affixed to the stretcher, identified and partially titled “…Miss J. Mam…” on an unattributed label affixed to the stretcher. Oil on canvas mounted to Masonite, 44 x 30 in. (111.8 x 76.2 cm), framed. Condition: Two diagonal lines of repair/retouch measuring approximately 12 inches each across face and upper chest, prominent craquelure primarily around figure, scattered accretions. Retouch as previously noted plus additional glazes and strokes in both figure and back ground (see UV images). Craquelure is stable, but there are areas of alligatoring. Miniatura. Portret Marii Leszczyńskiej, żony francuskiego króla Ludwika XV, córki polskiego króla Stanisława Leszczyńskiego i Katarzyny Opalińskiej. Miniatura namalował kopista na podstawie oleju Marurycego-Quentin de la Tour. Rzecz to ciekawa dla kolekcjonerów miniatur. Lot 32.Maurice-Quentin de La TOUR (1703-1768), d’après Ecole française du XIXe siècle. Portrait de Marie Leszczynska, reine de France. Miniature rectangulaire, 8,5 x 6,5 cm. Sous verre. Cadre en bronze doré et ciselé. B.E. Provenance : Collection Norbert de Beaulieu. Biographie : Marie LESZCZYNSKA (Trzebnica, 23 juin 1703 – Versailles, 24 juin 1768) est la seconde fille de Catherine Opalinska et de Stanislas Ier Leszczynski, roi de Pologne entre 1704 et 1709. Elle fut reine de France par son mariage avec Louis XV en 1725 et par son fils le dauphin Louis, qui épousa Marie-Josèphe de Saxe, elle est la grand-mère des trois derniers rois de Fran ce, Louis XVI, Louis XVIII et Charles X. Laissée à l’écart des affaires et peu considérée par la Cour, elle se consacra à son couvent fondé à Versailles pour l’instruction des jeunes filles pauvres, aujourd’hui le lycée Hoche. Elle veilla à l’éducation morale et religieuse du dauphin son fils qui décéda trois ans avant elle en 1765. Délaissée peu à peu par le roi, même s’il garda pour elle une profonde affection, elle s’adonna à la dévotion et prit sous sa protection un très grand nombre d’oeuvres charitables, contribuant notamment à la diffusion du culte du Sacré-Coeur. Obiecałem sobie że częściej bedę przedstawiał prace Elżbiety Baumann. Jej oleje są zwykle dobrze sprzedawane, choć z tym powyżej pokazanym trzeba postępować rozważnie. Obraz ten jest bowiem bardzo nieprofesjonalnie ‘umyty’ przez pseudo-konserwatora. Trzeba się dobrze przypatrzeć by odszukać jedynie ślady po sygnaturze jaka kiedyś była złożona nad ramieniem kobiety, po prawej stronie patrząc na nią. Co jeszcze zmyto?

Kolejna ofiara Niemców ze świata artystycznego w czasie II wojny światowej. Stosunkowo mało prac tej artystki przetrwało by można sobie coś więcej wyobrazić o jej malarstwie. Te dwa portrety mają atrybucję ale myślę, że prawdziwą. Zanotowuję na blogu bo przypuszczam, że te portrety, niedatowane i nie sygnowane, zapadną się na kolejne dziesiątki lat.
Lot 154. Bronislawa LUKOMSKA – WIELOWIEYSKA (1865 – Varsovie 1939). Portrait of a man holding a glass. Portrait of a woman sewing. Pair of canvases, on their original canvases Bears an inscription on the stretcher… Lukomska 72,5 x 58,5 cm. Bronislawa Lukomska – Wielowieyska is known as a painter of still lifes, portraits or typical Warsaw characters. She exhibited in Warsaw, Wilno, Lwow, Berlin, Munich and Prague. She stayed in Paris in 1893. She married the painter Tytus Poraj – Wielowieyski. Very few of her works remain. Most of them were destroyed in the bombings of World War II when Lukomska – Wielowieyska also died. We would like to thank Mr. Maurice Marek for his help in the attribution of these paintings. Jedna w wielu ofiar Niemców w czasie ostatniej wojny światowej. Była bardzo wrażliwą artystką potrafiącą wydobyć z każdego kobiecej modelki ciepło i zainteresowanie urodą. Osobiście szukam jej prac bardziej złożonych figuratywnie. Bardzo bogaty opis i spory materiał porównawczy jak na nie sygnowany przez Gottlieba portret. Nie rozumiem, dlaczego w opisie katalogowym nie ma ani słowa proweniencji. Czyż doprawdę nie można dojść do informacji kto wcześniej posiadał tę pracę? Chyba nie została znaleziona na paryskim pchlim jarmarku? Dodam, że portret Jakimowicza, ten z Muzem Narodowego w Warszawie jest sygnowany (dla porównania pokazuję niżej fotografię) , tudzież portret Wacława Borowskiego, z tego samego muzeum, też jest sygnowany. Jest trochę irytujące, że ‘zapomniano’ napisać w katalogu o tych dwóch sprawach (braku sygnatury i braku proweniencji) za to jest certyfikat autentyczności. Presumed by Leopold Gottlieb portrait of presumed Mieczysław Jakimowicz? 50,000 – 60,000 euro dla jednych dużo dla innych niewiele. Portret, swoją drogą, niezły.
Lot 13. Léopold GOTTLIEB (Drohobycz 1883 – Paris 1934). Presumed portrait of the painter Mieczyslaw Jakimowicz, Circa 1908. Oil on canvas, 100 x 80 cm. A certificate of authenticity from the BMCB will be given to the purchaser. Leopold Gottlieb, author of figurative scenes, religious and biblical subjects, was above all the master of portraiture. He painted striking effigies of representatives of Polish and international Bohemia: the art critic André Salmon, the sculptors Rembrandt Bugatti and Xawery Dunikowski, the painters Jules Pascin, Diego de Rivera and Wacław Borowski, among others. In 1907, in Krakow, Leopold Gottlieb painted a portrait of his brother-in-law and colleague, the painter Mieczysław Jakimowicz, with whom he had founded the Group of Five two years earlier. This portrait is entitled The Man Sitting on a Chair. Portrait of Mieczysław Jakimowicz, 1907, is now in the National Museum in Warsaw. Both Gottlieb and Jakimowicz met in 1908 in Paris, sharing the same address at 3 rue Boissonade in Montparnasse (which may even have been their studio). It was probably at this time that Jakimowicz served, for the second time, as a model for his brother-in-law. This portrait is part of a series that is distinguished in Gottlieb’s work by a very reduced, almost monochrome, colour range of ochres and earths, enhanced by black and white. Other examples of this series are: the Self-Portrait of 1908 (Tel Aviv Art Museum), two portraits of the artist’s mother, one dating from 1908, the other from 1910 (Israel Museum in Jerusalem), the Portrait of a Man, circa 1905-1910 (in 2000, in the Wojciech Fibak collection), and finally the Portrait of Wacław Borowski, circa 1910 (National Museum in Warsaw). Although painted, these paintings seem to be halfway between painting and drawing, in which Gottlieb also excelled, so decided and vigorous is the line. The hieratic and dignified pose of the model, whose gaze is directed downwards as if dominating the viewer while distancing himself from the outside world, brings him closer to Gottlieb’s Self-Portrait of 1908, already mentioned. The emphasis on the hands of the person being portrayed, as well as his posture leaning on the back of a seat – as in the above-mentioned Man Sitting on a Chair in the Warsaw Museum – again suggests that the model is Mieczysław Jakimowicz. Dwa autoportrety Stanaisława Eleszkiewicza. Ile autoportretów Eleszkiewicz namalował? Chyba sporo skoro pewnie z dziesięć z nich było na aukcjach w Polsce i dodatkowo niektóre z nich powtarzaly się nie sprzedane. Osobiście, nie jestem wielkim zwolennikiem malarstwa Eleszkiewicz bo sporo trzeba naszukać się by ewentualnie trafiła się jakaś jego wyjątkowo dobra praca. Zauważyłem, że jeden autoportretów z tej aukcji, ten z około 1930 roku, był niedawno dwukrotnie Polsce na aukcjach i chyba tam spadł. Próba teraz jest odwrotna: zaintereować kogoś z Polski na aukcji we Francji. Sprytne, ale trudno to ukryć. Słaby to portret. Drugi autoportret, Eleszkiewicz jako dandy, też miał pierwowzory jego ręki. W sumie, Millon nie pokazał nic ciekawego Eleszkiweicza. Szukałbym dalej.

Artystka praktycznie nieobecna na polskim rynku aukcyjnym. Wielokrotnie ‘przepuszczałem’ jej prace ale obiecuję, że bedą pojawiały się częściej, głównie z rynków skandynawskich.

Józef Chlebus. Portrait of a young lady surrounded by flowers, 1930
Mogę się zgodzić, że ten portret młodej kobiety, wykonany w 1930 roku przez Józefa Chlebusa, jest warty tyle na ile go wyceniono. Buzia uśmiechniętej kobiety jest ładna, kwiatowe tło nawet ciekawe, wrażenie przyjemne ale w sumie jest to przeciętny portret, na którym tkanina sukni i kwiaty w tle bardziej zatrzymują moje oczy od modelki.
