N.B. Lots 638 to 641 date to Tatarcyzk’s early period. He created his Gates series between 1984-1985, which was inspired both by the countryside landscape around Miecmierzu on the Vistula River as well as Caspar David Friedrich’s The Cemetary Gate (1825-30) (1). In all four works, Tatarczyk abstracts an A-frame form to reference secular and sacred structures and evoke a feeling of the commonplace and exalted.
Tatarczyk attended the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, studying under Jan Tarasin (Polish, 1926-2009) (2). He has participated in a number of one-man and group shows at the venerable Galeria Foksal in Warsaw, as well as the Moderna Museet in Stockholm and Muzeum Narodowe in Warsaw. He is the recipient of numerous grants and residencies, including most recently the Rockefeller Foundation Scholarship in Bellagio, Italy. (3)

Trzy prace Leona Tarasewicza zamykają majowy katalog bostońskiego Skinnera. Bardzo sobie cenię tego malarza za jego niezwykłe czytelne i proste kompozycje. Te wystawione na aukcji mają jedną podstawowa wadę – są za duże by je powiesić w przeciętnym mieszkaniu. Zresztą, nie są to największe jego prace jakie Tarasewicz spłodził w swojej dotychczasowej karierze. Potrafił zamalować ściany, podłogi i chyba sufity (mogę się pomylić co do sufitów) galerii w jakich wystawiał. Jest barwną postacią współczesnego polskiego malarstwa a ja od dawna szukam na aukcjach poza Polska jego pracy podobnej do tej sprzedanej w Desie w 2012 roku (fotografia na samym dole).

N.B. Tarasewicz’s works have been described by Mariusz Hermansdorfer, director of the National Museum in Wroclaw as “deceptively simple”–they depict the natural landscape of Bialystok in Northeast Poland but also express ‘the joy of experiencing and creating.” (1) Hermansdorfer adds that he “conjures nature, arranging and conducting mysteries akin to the practices of shamans and effects the metamorphoses of things in order to grasp their essense.”
Tarasewicz attended the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, studying under Tadeusz Dominik (Polish, b. 1928), receiving his MFA in 1984. He has participated in several one-man and group exhibitions at the Nordenhacke Gallery in Stockholm, Galeria Foksal in Warsaw, and the 49th Venice International Biennale, amongst others.

Wydaje mi się, że obydwie nazwy prac nie zostały jednak nadane przez autora a raczej przez właściciela. Warto zwrócić uwagę na powiększenia fragmentów by lepiej zrozumieć złożoną facturę każdej z prac.

Zastanawiam się czasami, gdzie kończy się granica tego co jeszcze nazwać można sztuką a gdzie zaczyna się hochsztapleka artystyczna. Przykład jak powyżej i poniżej, tego samego autora. Za jedyne $4,000 można kupić komplet: a) akrylowy obraz przedstawiający ekran plazmowy, co prawda tylko ok 38-40 calowy sądząc po wymiarach płótna, b) akryl przestawiający naturalnej wielkości kastę VHS, c) naturalnej wielkości akryl pilota do TV. W sumie są to trzy sztuki prac w akrylu, choć być może są to cztery prace bo niejasne jest ustawienie trzech pac razem na fotografii powyżej wyglądającej na osobną pracę. Z drugiej strony można teraz za $4,000 kupić dwa lub więcej tzw ‘plazma-TV’ (60-80 cali) i powiesić na ścianie oglądając zarówno TV jako przedniot artystyczny jak też mieć zarazem przyjemność z przedmiotu użytkowego. Podobnie jest z pilotem do TV, choć zupełnie inna sprawa z kasetą VHS jaka staje się antykiem i może stanowić obraz przemijania. Rozumiem, że w 2001 roku, czyli roku powstania prac Bujnowskiego, telewizor plazmowy namalowany na płótnie, mniej znanego artysty, mógł być tańszy od prawdziwego plazmowego telewizora. Tym samym, artysta wychodził swoją sztuką naprzeciw osobom mniej zamożnym jakie chciały pokazać ‘zewnętrzne znamiona bogactwa’ w postaci posiadania na ścianie drogiego przedmiotu użytkowego.
Pozwalam sobie żartować ale doprawdę nie wiem jak podejść do tej sztuki (sztuk) i wracam do pierwszego zdania.

W Szwajcarii wielki ‘wysyp’ sześciu prac Zbigniewa Makowskiego powstalych w końcu lat 60-tych i początków 70-tch. Rynek je wchłonie bez problemu ale trudno będzie uzyskać polskie ceny, właśnie ze względy na dużą podaż. Prace są głównie na papierze ale jedna z nich (powyżej) to olej na płótnie i oczywiście najdroższa z nich wszystkich.

Zbigniew Makowski studierte 1950-1956 bei Kazimierz Tomorowicz an der Akademia Sztuk Pieknych in Warschau. 1962 reiste er nach Paris und machte Bekanntschaft mit André Breton und den Künstlern der dem Surrealismus nahe stehenden Bewegung “Phases”. Dieser Austausch sollte ihn stark prägen. Makowskis Oeuvre umfasst Gemälde, Zeichnungen und Kunstbücher, daneben ist er auch als Dichter tätig. In seinen Werken verbinden sich Texte und Symbole mit surrealen Landschaften. Mit seinem visuell-symbolischen “Alphabet” entwickelte der Künstler eine Art persönliche Ikonografie, deren Elemente sich in seinen Werken wiederholen. Obwohl er seine Arbeiten ab 1982 der öffentlichen Präsentation entzog, betätigt er sich weiterhin künstlerisch. 1992 überreichte die polnische Regierung sein heute im Palais des Nations in Genf platziertes Werk “Mirabilitas secundum diversos modos exire potest a rebus” den Vereinten Nationen als Geschenk.
“Asura” ist sowohl ein geheimnisvolles als auch äusserst ornamentales Werk. Titel und Dreizack (Trishul) am oberen linken Bildrand verweisen auf Makowskis Interesse an der hinduistisch-buddhistischen Mythologie. Die dargestellten fliegenden Schlüssel und surrealen Passagen bilden wiederkehrende Bestandteile im Oeuvre des Künstlers.
