Dwie takie sobie prace Juliusza Słabiaka ale dużo lepsze od prac Chmielińskiego i do tego tańsze. Niemniej…radzę stać poza boiskiem bo splendoru mało dają.

No to juz widze oczyma duszy swojej jak kolekcjonerzy polskiego malarstwa, a wszegolnosci kolekcjonerzy polskiej batalistyki ostrza zeby i rychtuja kase. Wspanialy obraz nawiazujacy do Victorii wiedenskiej. Polski duchowny, polskie dziewczyny a przede wszystkim polscy zolnierze w tradycyjnych polskich mundurach. Do szczescia brakuje coprawda husarii ale co tam, najwazaniejsze ze to nasi. Jednak przed kupnem sugeruje wypicie minimum, powtarzam minimum pol litra trunku o mocy conajmniej 40 % choc moze byc to za malo. Dlaczego? Ano juz po zawieszeniu obrazu na honorowym miejscu ktos moze (zapewne z zawisci) stwierdzic ze to scenka np. z Wojny trzydziestoletniej (1618-48) i jakos tam Polakow nie widac, ale jest koronny kontrargument w postaci opisu tak zacnego domu aukcyjnego. Goraco polecam dla.. wlasnie dla kogo?  Niestety nie bardzo wiem dla kogo albowiem jest to kicz jakich nie malo i pozbawiony polskiego nawet najdrobniejszego elementu.

Catalogue Note

The present work depicts the peasants’ forfeiture of grain in a yeomen’s village, a subject that could be found in other Eastern European cultural and literary sources of the nineteenth century and Wierusz-Kowalski’s early work. Specifically, Rekwizycja (Requistion), like several other early paintings by the artist, is inspired by the Polish poet Adam Mickiewicz’s Pan Tadeusz (Sir Thaddeus, or the Last Lithuanian Foray: A Nobleman’s Tale from the Years of 1811 and 1812 in Twelve Books of Verse).

Until today, the work has been known only through its 1876 woodcut illustration in Tygodnik Illustrowany, as it has been untraced in a California collection for over a century.
