This Original tempera is signed by the artist in the belt of the right figure. It is inscribed with the bible verso from Joel 2:30 in Hebrew. This is probably an illustration for Szyk’s famous Haggadah for Passover that was printed in London in 1940 and was illustrated with 48 illustrations in colours by Syzk. The Szyk Haggadah was described by the London Times as “a book worthy to be placed among the most beautiful of books that the hand of man has produced.”

Provenance: The collection of Dr Haim Gamzu (1910-1982). Dr Haim Gamzu was the second director of the Tel Aviv Museum of Art, founder of the Beit Zvi School of Acting in Ramat Gan, as well as art and theater critic of the Ha’aretz newspaper.
