Boleswaw Jan Czedekowski (1885-1969)
Boleswaw Jan Czedekowski was a well-travelled Polish-Austrian painter of the 20th century, who lived among others in Vienna, Paris and New York. Czedekowski studied at first at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna. His teachers were Rudolph Bacher and Kazimierz Pochwalski. The artist focused on portraits and genre painting. Mainly he painted portraits of the Vienna nobility. During the First World War he worked as a medical orderly and as a war artist. Works of this period painted by Czedekowski are in the collection of the Military History Museum in Vienna. At the beginning of the 1920s he left Austria and traveled to New York, later he lived in Paris for several years. The oeuvre of the artist is well represented by the moving portraits and family paintings Czedekowski created of the high society.
