Lot 22. Juliusz Fortunat Kossak 1824 Wisnicz – 1899 Krakau – Schlachtenszene – Aquarell/Papier auf Karton montiert. 36 x 52 cm. Sign. und dat. l. u.: Juliusz Kossak / 1877. Passepartout. Stockflecken. Zwei Einrisse am oberen Rand. Vereinzelt Reibspuren bzw. Abrieb. – Lit.: Th.-B. XXI, S. 336. Neben dem Jurastudium studierte Kossak Malerei in Lemberg. Bekannt ist er für seine Porträts, Jagdszenen und insbesondere die Pferdedarstellungen. Nach seinem fünfjährigen Aufenthalt in Paris kam er 1868 ein Jahr nach München um beim Jagd-, Schlachten- und Pferdemaler Franz Adam zu studieren. Im Anschluss ging er nach Krakau, wo sein Haus Treffpunkt für die Krakauer Elite wurde.

Condition:
The sheet is good condition as consistent with age. The paper features a slight brownish tone and is mounted on a passepartout, verso fixed on two points. The sheet dimensions are 32.7 x 23.9 cm and the frame measures 56.6 x 47.5 cm.

Roman Opalka (1931-2011)

Born in Northern France, Opalka began a training as print maker at the age of 16. He went to art school in Łódź in 1949 and studied at the Fine Arts Academy in Warsaw.

In the mid 1960´s Opalk began to produce the first series paintings featuring progressive numbers. Throughout his lifetime Opalka was represented in several international exhibitions, as for instance in 1977 in Kassel´s documenta 6. Some of his most important oeuvres are today kept in the Museum of Modern Art and in the Guggenheim Foundation in New York.
