The artist Jean Lambert-Rucki was fascinated by magic of color, which is reflected not only in his paintings but primarily in his three-dimensional works. Thus all his sculptures feature an intense use of color, which only few of his fellow sculptors shared. Lambert-Rucki’s works are characterized by a rhythmic harmony of volumes and lines, merging figuration and abstraction.
Condition: The sculpture is in very good condition. The paint is a little rubbed in places. The height measures 113 cm.

Jean Lambert-Rucki (1888-1967)

Born in Poland, Jean Lambert-Rucki moved to Paris in 1911. Here Picasso and Braque had already laid the foundations for abstraction and so thus Lambert-Rucki also joined the Cubists. He initially shared a studio with Amadeo Modigliani and attended the Academy Colorossi where he devoted himself to wood carving. As early as 1913, Lambert-Rucki participated in the Salon d’Automne and later also in the Salon des Indépendants. From 1920 the artist’s works were exhibited alongside those of Derain, Léger, Mondrian, Picasso and others in the gallery of renowned art dealer Léonce Rosenberg. In addition to paintings and drawings Lambert-Rucki created mainly sculptures mostly in bronze, and later in wood and plaster. In collaboration with the furniture designer Jean Dunand, Lambert-Rucki also devoted himself to the decorative arts and even participated in the Exposition Internationale des Arts Décoratifs de Paris in 1925. In addition to numerous private commissions, Jean Lambert-Rucki also created designs for church interiors and is regarded as a pioneer of the Art Sacré Moderne
