Moim zdaniem najlepszy polski orientalista. Olej z proweniencją o której można pomarzyć. Okazja przed wyjazdem na wakacje.

Czytelnik (JM) skorygował tytuł tej pracy Stanisława Chelebowskiego jako The Tomb Of Sultan Selim II, Constantinople w kompleksie Hagia Sophia; https://www.loc.gov/item/2003667947/, dołączając poniższą fotografię z kolekcji British Museum. Dziękuję za uwagę. Eksperci domu Christie’s nie podróżowali do Konstantynopala, podobnia jak ja.

Wątki orientalne dominują w twórczości tego artysty, cenionego za dokładność w ukazywaniu dekoracji wschodnich wnętrz, fasad, faktury tkanin i ozdobnych deseni. Obrazy Stanisława Chlebowskiego pojawiają się rzadko na rynku, są wysoko wyceniane i są sprzedawane przez najważniejsze zagraniczne domy aukcyjne. Na aukcji ‘Orientalist Art’ w Christie’s obraz tego artysty pojawił się z wyceną przekraczającą 100,000 funtów. Drugim polonikiem na tej aukcji jest praca Tadeusza Ajdukiewicza.

To jest bardzo dobry obraz Stanisława Chlebowskiego. Porównując do rewelacyjnych prac współczesnej polskiej artystki, Ewy Juszkiewicz, potrzeba przynajmniej 10-20 podobnych obrazów Chlebowskiego by zrównoważyć cenę jednej pracy Juszkiewicz. Warto przyjrzeć się obu i zastanowić.

Obraz Chlebowskiego przetrwał próbę czasu swoją znakomitą techniką malarską. Artysta żył bardzo krótko a tego typu prace są bardzo poszukiwane przez koneserów.

Alwarela dobra i warta odnotowania ale z mieszanymi uczuciami podchodzę do jej sprzedaży. Ktos ją kupił chyba w maju a teraz sprzedał, zarobił i liczy pieniądze. Traktowanie sztuki jak worka kartofli.

Jeszcze jeden z polskich malarzy, który żył bardzo krótko i większość życia spędził poza granicami polskich ziem. Z tych powodów jego doskonale namalowane realistycznne prace o kolorycie orientalnym są niezwykle rzadkie i są drogie. Olej jaki jest w Bonhams (Strażnicy czerkiescy) został sprzedany 10 lat temu w Sotheby’s za $22,500 a teraz cena niewątpliwie się podwoi (gdyby to był Fangor to cena wzrosłaby minimum 5 razy). Bonhams sprzedaje ten obraz na aukcji ‘The Russian Sale’ a to może oznaczać, że również Rosjanie mogą konkurować – Chlebowski przecież studiował w Rosji.

Ci co nie zauważyli tej znakomitej pracy Chlebowskiego w grudniu 2020 roku (https://polishartcorner.com/2020/11/18/stanislaw-chlebowski-1835-1884-3/) lub zauważyli lecz liczyli, że może kupią taniej nie będą zachwyceni jej obecnością w Sotheby’s. Praca została wyceniona teraz znacznie wyżej. Poprzednia sprzedaż została zarejestrowana jako $20,000. Ta cena była jednak ‘fake’ skoro po aukcji właściciel gotowy był zaakceptować $30,000 lub może niżej. Sotheby’s może bardziej ‘nobilituje’ ten olej ale to ta sama praca co w amerykańskim Herritage tyle, że teraz jest 2x drożej.

The present work depicts a scribe in Constantinople, who is shown seated in a moment of focus, with an absorbed customer. One of the traditional professions in the Middle East, public scribes earned a living by reading as well as writing. They were a necessity in the Ottoman era, when the language used in documents was vastly different to ordinary speech and many were illiterate. As a result, they were respected, educated individuals, in a culture which placed a high value on literacy and the subtleties of elegant calligraphy. The image of the scribe consulting with clients on the street also inspired paintings by Martinus Rørbye, Carl Werner, Fausto Zonaro and Osman Hamdy Bey.
Stanislaus von Chlebowski was born in Podolia, the Ukraine, and began his artistic training at the St. Petersburg Academy. He first travelled to Munich before moving to Paris where he entered the Ecole des Beaux-Arts as a student of Jean-Léon Gérôme. Chlebowski was appointed Court Painter to the Ottoman empire by the Sultan Abdülaziz sometime after 1864. He was tasked with depicting the chief wars and battles in Ottoman history and at the end of his term, the artist was rewarded with the medal of the Order of Mecidiye, third class. Other notable artists who held this position were Ivan Aivazovsky and Pierre Désiré Guillemet.
Like his friend and teacher Gérôme, Chlebowski made multiple studies from nature; in Turkey and Egypt he drew and painted when walking the streets and when he returned to Paris he drew inspiration from a large collection of oriental craftwork. Chlebowski crucially painted scenes he had witnessed and, in its verisimilitude, the present lot displays a remarkable knowledge of, and sensitivity to, Ottoman culture.

Do sześciu olejów Romana Kochanowskiego, jakie już wcześniej przedstawilem, wartoro zważyć kupno tej pracay Stanisława Chlebowskiego. Polskie malarstwo XIX wieczne z najwyższej półki. Mały olej, drogi olej, ale dobry olej. PS. Cena estymacyjna jest dwukrotnie zaniżona.
