Janina Konarska-Słonimska, Saint Erasmus Erasmus of Antioch surrounded by numerous animals, inscribed in the lower part of the image “Swiety erazm opiekun trzod” (Saint Erasmus, protector of the herds), coloured woodcut, c. 1925-30, signed in lead below the image on the right “Ianina Konarska”, slightly creased and yellowed, image dimensions approx. 35,5 x 26,5 cm, sheet dimensions ca. 40 x 30 cm. Artist’s info: actually Janina Seideman, Polish painter and graphic artist (1900 Łódź to 1975 Warsaw), descended from a Jewish family of textile manufacturers, studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw under Władysław Skoczylas, adopted the artist’s name Konarska in 1918, entered the art competitions for the Olympic Games in Los Angeles in 1932 with the woodcut “Stadium” and won second place in the graphics category, married the writer Antoni Słonimski in 1934, fled to Paris with her husband in 1939 and to Great Britain in 1940, returned to Poland in 1951, source: Wikipedia. Dwie grafiki Janiny Seideman vel Konarskiej i po mężu Słonimskiej z cyklu ‘Święci patroni’, wykonane pod koniec lat 20-tych XX wieku na aukcji w Niemczech. Brakuje do kompletu kilku grafik (św. Genowefa, św. Michał, św. Józef, św. Maria Egipcjanka, św. Piotr Chryzolog) ale te czasami pojawiają się niespodziewanie.
