Abraham Neumann (1873 – 1942)

Lot 666. Neumann, Abraham (1873 Sierpc, Russia -1942 Krakow Ghetto) – Field landscape with haystacks after the harvest, oil on card board, signed ”A. Neuman” lower left, dimensions: c. 65×91,5cm, framing -A. Neumann was a well-known Polish landscape painter and graphic artist. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow, and later in 1903 for a short time at the Académie Julian in Paris. He was well-traveled and visited not only several European countries, such as the UK, Belgium, the Netherlands and Austria, but also the USA and Palestine, he worked as a teacher at the Bezalel School of Fine Arts and Arts, his studio was located in Zakopane, during the German occupation of Poland the Jewish artist had to move to the Krakow Ghetto, where he was shot in the open street together with the poet Mordechaj Gebirtig in 1942.
