Wojciech Kossak (1857 – 1942)
Lot 1023. WOJCIECH KOSSAK (POLISH 1856-1942); oil on canvas, study of a soldier with his sweetheart beside a grey horse, signed and dated 1927, also inscribed on plaque to the frame, 54 x 43.5cm, framed. The artist is from the famous Kossak family who were noted artists and writers. He painted many Polish battle scenes and was influenced by his father Juliusz, however he is recognised for detailing the history of the Polish armed struggle and notable Polish battles of Central and Eastern Europe.
